Daylight Saving Time May Affect Outlook Calendar
Posted by Marc Jones, Systems Administrator, Student Affairs Information Technology February 20, 2007
The Federal Government has changed Daylight Saving Time (DST) so that
starting this year DST will go into effect on the second Sunday of
March (March 11th), instead of the first Sunday of April (April 2nd).
As a result all computers need to have their operating systems updated
so that they will change their time on the correct day. Student
Affairs Information Technology approved the software update for all
computers in the Division in late November, so we expect that almost
all machines should already have this patch applied.
Unfortunately as people begin scheduling for the spring semester some
people have noticed problems with meetings scheduled in Outlook
between March 11th and April 2nd. For instance I have recurring
meetings for Wednesday at noon twice a month, every month during the
school year. Every August I schedule the meetings to occur from August
to May. Looking at my March 2007 calendar those meetings where moved
to 1:00 pm for the Month of March. All of my meetings in April and May
were fine.
Problems will most likely affect people who have scheduled meetings
for March before the beginning of December 2006. Please review your
March Outlook calendar to ensure that your meetings have not been
shifted an hour later. Group meetings are also affecting by this, so
everyone invited to the meeting to needs to check their own calendar,
not just the meeting organizer.
