Community Outreach Specialist (Program Specialist I – UCP VI)

Department of Wellness and Prevention Services

Job Summary:

Under the supervision of the Director of Wellness and Prevention Services, the Community Outreach Specialist collaborates with key campus and community stakeholders to develop, identify, implement and support programs and initiatives related to health and wellness activities.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Assists in developing, identifying and disseminating campus and community resources related to student health, health promotion, mental health, intervention and treatment needs.
  2. Assists in the planning, development, design, implement and evaluation of Departmental and program specific initiatives and activities.
  3. Serves as a resource for students, staff and faculty regarding campus and community student health, health promotion, mental health, and intervention and treatment resources.
  4. Successfully implements projects related to program specific initiatives.
  5. Collects data necessary to track, evaluate and prepare analytical reports related to program specific initiatives.
  6. Maintains administrative records related to program specific initiatives, and campus and community resources identified.
  7. Represents the Department to external groups.
  8. Is knowledgeable about State, University, and Departmental policies and protocols.
  9. May conduct workshops, seminars or presentations.
  10. May supervise student interns, leaders, and/or office workers.
  11. May participate in the planning, development and implementation of grant proposals.
  12. Performs other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in social work, public health or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  2. Two to four years of professional experience conducting community outreach programs.
  3. Comprehensive knowledge of community outreach programs and proven ability to apply a range of concepts, techniques and practices to carry out technical program objectives e.g., develop goal and outcome statements, develop assessment tools.
  4. Proven ability to work effectively with the public.
  5. Proven ability to use Microsoft Office Suite.
  6. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  7. Proven ability to work independently and problem solve.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Master’s of social work, public health or related field.
  2. Experience working in higher education.
  3. More than four years professional experience conducting community outreach programs.
  4. Proven ability to collaborate with groups, organizations and teams such as campus and community organizations, work teams within a single organization, departments/divisions within a single organization.
