Community Outreach Program Coordinator (Student Activities Program Coordinator I – UCP IV)
The University of Connecticut’s Department of Student Activities announces an opening for a full-time Community Outreach Program Coordinator (Student Activities Program Coordinator I – UCP IV) position. This position reflects the University’s commitment to preparing students to be responsible global citizens. Working within the mission of the department, the selected candidate will advise, coordinate, and provide leadership to designated student community service learning programs including the university’s Jumpstart program. Jumpstart is a national early literacy organization that works toward the day when every child in America enters school prepared to succeed. Jumpstart accomplishes this vision through supporting corps members to work individually with young children in preschool settings.
Responsibilities: Coordinate Community Outreach’s language and literacy programs including Jumpstart, America Reads, and English as a Second Language programs; organize related special events; advise assigned students in planning and managing their programs; maintain regular contact with student leaders, community partners, and program sponsors; design, develop and present training, reflection, educational, and recognition programs; and supervise designated student leaders, drivers, and workers.
Highlighted Qualifications: Minimum - Bachelor's degree in appropriate field and two to three years experience OR Equivalent combination of training and experience; Ability to actively foster a campus climate that is welcoming and supportive of University of Connecticut’s diverse student body and encourage communication with and among campus constituencies. Preferred - Master’s degree in early childhood education or related field; one or more years experience with early childhood, school readiness, or literacy programs strongly preferred; experience with Jumpstart for Children, Inc. programs strongly preferred; one or more years experience with advising college students in leadership and volunteer capacities; experience directly supervising college students strongly preferred.
Anticipated Salary: Mid to high $30’s with excellent benefits; Full time, 12-month, end-date position subject to annual renewal.
