Job Summary:

Under the direction of the Student Affairs Technology Systems Manager, the Systems Analyst for Medical Technologies provides advanced level technical expertise in support of the efficient, effective, and reliable operation of the University's Student Health Services’ medical technology systems and subsystems. The Systems Analyst for Medical Technologies may supervise student workers.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Install and maintain computer hardware, operating systems, and commercial software products, with a primary focus on medical services.
  2. Diagnose and resolve errors in server and workstation hardware, operating systems, and commercial software products, with a primary focus on medical services. Collaborate with the workstation administrator to integrate solutions into mainstream support.
  3. Demonstrate technical proficiency by consulting on and resolving medical services-related problems and business needs using computer hardware, operating systems, and commercial software products.
  4. Resolve complex integration issues including activities associated with various computer hardware, operating systems, and commercial software products, with a primary focus on medical services.
  5. Participate in the assessment of the required level of systems redundancy and fault tolerance, with a primary focus on medical services.
  6. Participate in implementing appropriate measures to insure business continuity in the event of systems failure, with a primary focus on medical services.
  7. Monitor server, infrastructure, and workstation logs and take appropriate action to correct system anomalies, instability, and errors.
  8. Determine appropriate security and stability patches, test patches in an environment parallel to the production environment, and install patches in the production environment.
  9. Document system architecture, monitoring procedures, policies, and routine maintenance procedures.
  10. Implement and monitor security policies and appropriate use policies for Division computer systems.
  11. Assist management in evaluating and selecting major software and hardware subsystems.
  12. Assist with the management, monitoring, and documentation of all Division computer systems.
  13. Work effectively with management, end user, vendor, and technical personnel in evaluating, planning for, and installing software and hardware products.
  14. Lead medium to large-sized technical projects.
  15. Prepares or assists with the preparation of project plans.
  16. Make recommendations for advancing medical services technology in the Division.
  17. Collaborate with other information technology staff, administrators, and key end users to assess the information technology needs of the Division of Student Affairs.
  18. Collaborate with other information technology staff to create a functional, reliable, and easy to use desktop and network computer environment.
  19. Actively foster a campus climate that is welcoming and supportive of the University of Connecticut’s diverse student and employee communities, and encourage communication with and among campus constituencies.
  20. Assist with supervising the technical work of lower level staff members.
  21. Perform related duties as required.

Minimum Acceptable Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's degree in computer related field or equivalent combination of training and experience. Four years of technical experience will substitute for a bachelor’s degree.
  2. Three to five years of highly technical and progressively responsible technical experience that demonstrates a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of enterprise-wide hardware and software.
  3. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  4. Ability to lead major projects.
  5. Demonstrated commitment to maintaining state-of-the-art technical knowledge.
  6. Excellent verbal and written communication skills to both a technical and non-technical audiences.
  7. Good interpersonal skills including the ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented, fast-paced information technology environment.
  8. Willingness and ability to work flexible schedule as required such as evenings and occasional weekends.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in computer science or other area of study requiring advanced problem-solving skills.
  2. Experience with medical systems such as PyraMed, Clinlab, XPacs, or QS/1.
  3. Experience with geographic server systems redundancy practices.
  4. Experience with HIPAA compliance.
  5. Experience with desktop computer virtualization and/or terminal services.
  6. Experience with Windows, Linux, and/or Oracle configuration and management.
